The Story Behind “She Walks On”

I think every girl either has a friend like this girl or is this girl in She Walks On. For me, she’s a bunch of girls I have met in my life rolled into one. And I suppose myself at times, too. One of my favorite questions to ask people, especially underclassman, is, “So, what do you want to be when you grow up?” I like this question for a few reasons: 1. It’s phrased in a way that is playful, and sets a casual tone. 2. It shows interest in that person, which always makes them more comfortable to share. 3. Their...

The Story Behind “Keep Movin”

The Story Behind “Keep Movin”

Keep Movin’ is probably one of my favorite tracks on the album because it makes me feel good in various ways. I know that’s weird to say as someone who wrote it/doesn’t actively listen to her own music regularly, but it does. It makes me feel good. I’m smiling just thinking about it. The Story My family had just moved to South Carolina in 2010, and I was excited about the new chapter in our lives. Like any move, it’s hard to leave the people and places that you love, particularly if you have been there for 22...

Preparing For Whatever It Is I Am Preparing For #15habits

Today’s challenge for Jeff Goins’ 15 Habits of Great Writers is to prepare and put into action! I’m all about preparation. In fact, after reading his post, I think sometimes all I do is prepare, or I prepare for a long time and execute either minimally or poorly! Also, in participating in this 15-day challenge, it’s hard to define exactly what I am preparing for. I know I want to write, but I have never been able to pinpoint exactly what I should be writing. Perhaps this challenge is a method of preparation for me....

To Be A Song Writer…

First of all, thanks for all of the support with The Room I Found! If you haven’t checked it out, visit the Store link on the menu, or check it out on iTunes! On Friday night, I had the opportunity to play a few songs from the album at an event called “Friday Night Music” which was birthed by some members of the church I go to here in Charleston. It’s basically a night for any artists, musicians, writers, or other kinds of creators to share their work and create a sense of community. It’s really a lot of fun! One...

Where is that new album?

Where is that new album?

I promise, it’s on the way! I had a few artwork/layout problems during the duplication process, but I am fairly sure those are all ironed out and I should be receiving my CDs within the next week! Crossing my fingers that everything turns out correctly! But hey, want to see the album cover? I had to change the cover from my original artwork (which was also cool!) due to the template requirements, so I was forced to start from scratch. My friend Jenna Buesser from back in the day, like maybe 4th grade, responded to a Facebook ad I put up...

The Final Recording Session!

The Final Recording Session!

So earlier this year I thought I was done recording…but of course I ended up writing new material and reviving older material and they ended up becoming new favorites. They each contributed to the overall theme and feel of “The Room I Found,” so I decided to give them that chance and put them on the album. Does that mean some songs may get voted off the island? Possibly. Once I have all of the final mixes I will have to play around with different track orders and see who fits and who doesn’t fit the bill. That sounds so...
