Good Times At Coffee Underground!

Good Times At Coffee Underground!

Thanks to all who came out to Coffee Underground last night! It was a good time! Next time, I fully plan on having it over-organized so that there is no room for error. I now owe my brother and his friend Dunkin Donuts for working the cover charge table, and I will get there earlier to learn how to use the sound board or bring someone extreme tech-savvy. And I would publicize it more. Other than that, all was good! If you missed it, have no fear. A friend captured the entire night on video. I’m going to edit it with her this week and...

The Final Recording Session!

The Final Recording Session!

So earlier this year I thought I was done recording…but of course I ended up writing new material and reviving older material and they ended up becoming new favorites. They each contributed to the overall theme and feel of “The Room I Found,” so I decided to give them that chance and put them on the album. Does that mean some songs may get voted off the island? Possibly. Once I have all of the final mixes I will have to play around with different track orders and see who fits and who doesn’t fit the bill. That sounds so...

Last…but not least!

Last…but not least!

I think I finished the last song for the album tonight! Wow. To be honest, I already thought I had all of the songs written and recorded. Of course, being in a new place brings new experiences and new music! It was one of those songs that I really didn’t plan on writing, so I knew it was something important! This song is very different from the others that will be joining it on the album. A lot of these songs were written at different points in my life, so it’s interesting to hear the musical influences and the lyric content from...

The Album Cover and Title!

The Album Cover and Title!

Greetings! I’m writing to you on what should have been my first day of Grad School, but due to freezing rain and poor driving conditions they have canceled classes! Though it prolongs my “first day of school nerves” an extra day, this is totally beyond awesome! I should have the final mixes of my songs sometime in the near future, so now the real fun (or maybe it’s not fun at all, we’ll see!) begins! I started thinking about what I would do for album artwork and a title a couple months ago…Would I just put a...

New Years Goals!

Happy New Year! I’m always very excited about the new year because I like the feeling of starting fresh and setting goals. I have a lot of new ideas for 2011, and am excited to take on this new year! Today is also the first day of the 100 Music Education Majors Tweeting project! Andy and I are very excited to get more students tweeting about their experiences and participating in all of the music education conversations going on. Visit MusicEdMajor.Net for updates and the official landing page for the project for more information! As for...

Post-Recording Session Thoughts

What an awesome and musically productive two days! We successfully recorded 4 songs: 3 with full band (guitar, bass, drums) and 1 acoustic. They are going to be SO cool!! I’m so excited. I must say, I’m pretty tired! I didn’t do much “activity” until the end of the second day, which was when we did all of the vocal tracks, but for some reason it was tiring! It must be all of that thinking we were doing! Here’s a sneaky photo of me “rocking the mic.” It’s so fun to hear the “music you...

Pre-Recording Session Thoughts

On Friday I’ll be heading to Clover, SC to record with my friend and favorite engineer, Drew Cyphers. I’m SO excited. I just finished the last song, or what I think is the last song, I need to finish this album. I think it summarizes everything I have been feeling and writing about in all of the songs. It’s like a giant sigh of relief and closure. I like it. I’ve already decided to cut one song from the session tomorrow, making it 4 instead of 5. I’ve performed “To Be Whole” live before, and it’s...

Site Update – December 2010

Greetings! The year and semester are coming to an end, so I have begun to prepare for some new projects for 2011! It’s kind of like an early New Year’s Resolution, without it really…resolving…anything. New Years Goals, perhaps! First, to prepare for these projects I had to alter the appearance/navigation of my site. The page formerly known as “Musical Background” has been blended with the “About” page, only for consolidation and navigation bar space reasons. Some things will be added to it...

“The Last Lecture” – Randy Pausch

I finally finished reading The Last Lecture, and can officially deem it as one of those reading experiences where you nod your head the entire time in either agreement or in sudden inspiration. Sometimes it really does take someone who is dying to teach you how to live. I love Randy Pausch’s way of living life. I love that he held on to his childhood dreams. I love that he asked questions. I love that he encouraged learning and experiencing. I so much believe in doing all of those things, simply because you have one life…why not achieve...

A Very Old Blog

Greetings! I found some really great text to use for a choral composition from the Confessions of Saint Augustine: Late have I loved you, beauty so old and so new: late have I loved you. And see, you were within and I was in the external world and sought you there, and in my unlovely state I plunged into those created things which you made. You were with me, and I was not with you. The lovely things kept me far from you, though if they did not have their existence in you, they had no existence at all. You called and cried out loud and...
